Summer is just around the corner here in Houston! Long days, a hot sun, and no school means it’s time to open your pool for your family to enjoy. 3D Pools and Landscape want to offer you some advice on how to prepare your pool for use this summer. The worst thing you can do is wait until school is out to begin working on your pool. Go ahead and plan a day to get everything ready so that when your kids are out of class, they can jump in and begin the fun!
The first thing you are going to want to do in order to prepare your pool for the summer is to clean it. 3D Pools and Landscape suggests taking the time to scoop out all of the leaves, brush the bottom, and anything else in order to take debris out of the pool. You are also going to want to be sure your baskets are cleaned out and prepared for the summer. The best thing you can do is to continuously clean your pool throughout the off season, but if you didn’t now is certainly the time.
Once that is completed, it is vitally important for you to check the chemical balance of the pool. In order to protect your pool and keep your water clean and ready for use, you need to have your pool’s chemicals properly balanced. It is suggested to call a professional company to come out and check the chemicals of the pool before the summer starts. Once you receive the results be sure to add whatever chemicals are needed in order to prepare the pool. Here are some suggestions of what the chemical range should be in a pool and what to add if your pool isn’t properly balanced.
pH levels need to be between 7.2-7.4. If you’re pH balance is too low, you can use Soda Ash to raise the level. If your balance is too high, add muriatic acid or sodium bisulfate.
Total alkalinity between 80-120. Use sodium bicarbonate to increase your alkalinity and muriatic acid to decrease it.
Calcium hardness from 150 ppm to 250 ppm (parts per million). If you need to adjust the calcium levels, add calcium chloride.
Chlorine from 1 ppm to 3 ppm. If you need to add chlorine to your pool, be sure to purchase chlorine tablets along with a dispenser to get your pool’s chlorine level up to where it needs to be.
These are simple steps to be sure your pool’s chemicals are ready to go! If you are adding a bunch of chemicals to the pool in order to get the chemical levels up to what it needs to be, be sure to wait a few days for the chemicals to work its way into the pool. It is also important to consistently keep your pool clean of leaves and other debris including checking the baskets on a regular basis.
