The greater Houston area experienced a historic winter freeze that caused so many problems for our city. While the snow and cold can be fun, our latest experience with it was anything but fun. For those of you who experienced major issues, 3D Pools and Landscaping would like to extend our sympathies. For some, the winter storm didn’t cause major damage inside our homes but it did cause damage to our plants. Maybe you have had landscaping put in by 3D Pools and Landscape and now many of those plants seem to have died. Or maybe your front and backyard have not had landscaping done but your plants died nonetheless. Because of the major problems caused by the storm, 3D Pools and Landscape would like to offer some guidance into what you can do to help your plants recover and an alternative should they not?

One of the first things you should do is to give your plants time to recover and water your plants. One thing that some homeowners do after a freeze is to immediately prune and or dig up their frozen plants. It is better to wait until the weather warms a bit to give your plants a pruning. And sometimes what can happen is homeowners think there is no hope for the plants and immediately remove them. Let the plants stay for a little while to see how they come back. Sometimes it can take the plants months to recover.  The other important thing that should happen if your plants are frozen is to water them. When it freezes outside, plants lose their water and they begin to dry up. It is vital that plants receive more water during a freeze. Giving your plants about an inch of water can help them recover quicker! Of course, if you covered your plants and did everything right and you still had damaged plants, just know that you are not alone as this historic winter storm has really caused major problems for all of us.

If you did everything you could and your plants simply could not make it, 3D Pools and Landscape would love the opportunity to provide you with a free landscaping quote today. Restarting your landscaping on your own is a daunting task that takes a lot of time. It also requires knowledge of plants, what they each need, and which plants can be planted together and which shouldn’t. While all of this can be done, 3D Pools and Landscape has the knowledge and time to come to your home, walk with you in designing your landscaping, and we will send a team ASAP to plant your beautiful landscaping. For those of you who have had landscaping done, you know the benefits of a beautiful yard, so don’t hesitate to give 3D Pools and Landscaping a call today to allow us to show you why we should be the ones to put in your new landscaping.

For those of you who have never had landscaping done but have lost many or all of your plants around your home, 3D Pools and Landscape would love the opportunity to help you install some new landscaping. While we all know that Houston is a wonderful city, we wouldn’t say it is known for its natural beauty as there are so many buildings and roads around, however, your front and backyard can be the exception with beautiful landscaping. Landscaping can help you feel like you are living in a luscious land or even a tropical paradise. Houston’s concrete jungle doesn’t have to get you down if you have your own backyard haven. 3D Pools and Landscape can show you multiple options based on your property that can really enhance it. Maybe you want to keep an open yard but just have simple landscaping done around the home and the fence. Maybe you don’t mind having a smaller yard for the sake of beautiful plants, paths, and lights to make your yard incredibly unique. Whatever your preferences are, 3D Pools and Landscape is ready to work for you.

We know that so many of you had property and plants damaged with the winter storm. While we hope your plants recover, 3D Pools and Landscape stands ready to help you plant a new back or front yes if that is what you need to do. Give us a call today if you live in the Katy, Fulshear, or greater Houston area for a free quote!

Seasonal changes affect your outdoor area more than anything else, and It is important to prepare your yard or garden for the new season. Here are some tips and tricks on how to manage good plant and lawn care for the changing weather.

  • See what you’re working with

Plant and lawn care starts with observation. As most plans tend to go dormant during colder seasons like winter and fall, what you want to do at this time is to prepare your plants for the next spring season. Before you start doing anything else, take a walk around your garden and look at how your lawn and plants did over the summer. See what plants are thriving and healthy, and take note of the ones that did not make it through the season. Check for any diseased plants that need to be removed. Assess the damage and see which parts of your lawn and plants need some extra TLC.

  • Prepare your soil for the next seasons

Lawn and plant care doesn’t end with the green parts. In order to keep your plants and lawn healthy during warmer seasons, you need to prepare your soil. Do weeding and divide overgrown plants. Amend the bare spots by adding mulch. Tend to your soil by adding compost and peat moss to replenish it for better spring growth, and also make sure your compost is evenly distributed by using the right gardening tools.

  • Learn about your lawn and plants

lawn care

As different types of lawn need different tending routines, first you will need to find more information about what type of lawn you have to care for. In most cases, the best time to sow is within the first 6 weeks; this will give the lawn time to build roots before the cold hits. Another important thing to remember is to use all-natural fertilizers, and figure out how much you need to use for your lawn-type.

For plants, it is best to remove annual plants and give the soil some time to breath and renew itself. You can save the seeds from the removed plants and always plant them again when the right time comes for them to grow.

  • Keep the birds coming

Insects might make your life a lot harder when it comes to lawn and plant care. Having birds visit your backyard could be a great way to get rid of insects without spending too much money on chemicals to spray or dust your yard with. Having a small feeder installed for them can go a long way, and will save you some money on pesticides.

If you’re still unsure about what to do before the cold really hits and don’t want to be unprepared, give us a call! We’re more than happy to help and care for your lawn and plants.
